Myrtle Beach Has A Castle

Friday, December 30, 2016

We went to Myrtle Beach again for the New Year.  We stayed at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort.

For breakfast, we went to  Hot Stacks Pancake House.  The restaurant is very dated but the food was fantastic!  We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day.

One of the main places we visited during this trip was Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach State Park.  Atalaya was the winter home of industrialist Archer Huntington and his wife Anna.  They built the castle in the 1930s and last used it in 1947.  During World War II, they allowed the Army Air Corps to use the premises.

Anna was a sculpter and used to keep live bears on the grounds as models for her sculptures.

The state park has private beach access.

Inlet Square Mall - This mall is almost abandoned.
