Zoo Kontakt & Traveling to Poland

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Sadly, we left Kosice today for Poland but we continued to see more of Slovakia along the way and even made a special stop!

Ice Rink.  I love the look of this building!

Beautiful scenery along the way

Our special stop of the day was Zoo Kontakt!  More about that in a moment.  It is located in what appears to be an attraction-filled area.  Nearby are helicopter rides, a butterfly house, and a water park.

Entrance to Zoo Kontakt

Zoo Kontakt is a small place.  Almost all animals are along this corridor stretch.  There is one straight path you walk along with animals on both side.  There is a farm petting area behind the right side.  Zoo Kontakt is a special place because visitors are allowed to get up close with most of the animals.  So close that you are able to go in the exhibits and touch the animals.

Baby lions!  They were two months old.

And back to the lion cubs!

Leaving Zoo Kontakt.  I loved this place.  Being able to get up close with lions was such a neat experience.  I appreciate these creatures even more so now.

Heading back to the parking area across the street

On the road to Poland

Logging seems to be a big industry in the area

Arriving in Oswiecim, the home of Auschwitz

Hampton Inn, the hotel we stayed at.  The parking area for the hotel is extremely difficult to locate.  If you stay here, turn right at the road across the street from the hotel.  It's just a little before the hotel.  Park in this lot and go register at the hotel.  You will continue on this road you just turned on and make a left to make it down to the hotel parking garages.

Alcohol check.  Drivers are randomly told to pull over for a breathalyzer.

Dinner at McDonald's

They had these awesome American Potato Fries.  We need these in the US!

Tomorrow we will be taking a guided tour of Auschwitz and then traveling to the Czech Republic.
