Exploring Bowling Green, KY Stores

Monday, December 22, 2014

This past Saturday, December 13, we had the idea to go to Bowling Green, KY.  We have passed through there before to go to Flea Land (which also has an antique market) and Bright's Antique World as well as a few others.

That being said, there were a few places we had not been to before, so that was the reasoning for our trip.

Our first stop was in Smiths Grove, KY right outside of Bowling Green.  It was Hidden In The Grove Antiques.  It's name really says everything about its location.  This is a smaller antique store but one worth visiting.  They have a small upstairs section as well.

Some of our finds there:
An old TV.  Its' description stated it no longer works.

Asprin! This was so neat.  There were pills still left in the containers.  Interestingly, the instructions stated users should gargle with the pills dissolved in water to relive throat irritations.

 Inside the store

We found two Sears catalogs from 1991.  Inside, I was able to find several toys I had and loved as a child!

Check out the price of the Sony Discman when it first came out!

I think I had the Barbie Beach boat as a child.  If not, I must have seen it in the catalog as a child because it seems very familiar.

These pages has so many of my childhood favorites!  I had #4 - Shopping Cart and Play Food, #4 Magic Scan Checkout Counter (This toy was THE BEST!), and #6 - Magic Burner Kitchen Center.

I totally remember the gaming pages in the Sears catalog!  The Super Nintendo was/is awesome.  Anything Nintendo is great.

This Pepsi glass interested me due to the design.  This is how the Pepsi cans looked back in the day.

Check out all of the Pizza Hut match boxes.

As we were leaving, we came across this gorgeous elementary school.  We couldn't believe it was an elementary school!  They had the neatest signs up as well in the area where parents drop children off.

Next, we headed to Antique Row on S Main Street.  There are several antique stores located right next to each other.  One was closed and seemed to have been closed for quite some time.  There's still stuff in the store though but we could not see a walking path in the store.  It was that cluttered.

First up was Boone's Antiques.

The store smelled very nicely.  There was a strong scent of butterscotch throughout the whole store.  This was a nice little antique store but they didn't have much that was of interest to us.  They had a downstairs and a small upstairs.

These cigarette stands were interesting.

The stairs inside were not very wide at all.  This picture doesn't do them justice.

Vintage key-making stand

Main Street Antiques & Collectibles, LLC. was up next.  It's right next door to Boone's Antiques. It's smaller than Boone's but has more items of interest to us such as games.

This is an Ironrite.  It was a machine used to iron clothes and was popular around the 40s and 50s.  If interested, check out this vintage advertising video for it.  You're sure to get some giggles from it.

Atari Games!

Vintage board games

We came across a Sears catalog from 1986!

I was so excited to find this page dedicated to the Commodore Computer.  My dad had a Commodore 64 and it was my first experience with a computer.  It was awesome and still hold a big place in my heart.  My love of computers developed using the Commodore 64.

There was also a page dedicated to this Craftsman lawnmower.  My dad had this lawnmower for my entire childhood.

Evel Knievel dolls/sets

On our way to our next store, we passed this Texaco station.  Its look reminds me of such stations in my hometown when growing up.

Quarter Moon Antiques was our next stop.  It is located next to a gun and pawn shop.  It's a small store and has items such as tables, vintage tools, and clocks.  The owner was talking to another local business owner while we were there.  Supposedly, Pam Tillis recently stopped by there.  He said she is building a cabin and is looking for items to put in it.  The local business woman he was talking to did not have a clue who Pam is.  Crazy.

I love this old Coca Cola Fountain Syrup carton!

Next up was the Vette City Flea Market.  This place is is quite and has a lot of interesting booths, so it is easy to spend several hours at!

We loved this sign they have posted on their front door!

A glimpse of one section of the mall.  There is MUCH, MUCH more to explore.

They have three pet birds!

We found this Lowe's Santa to be so interesting!

Astronaut Cabbage Patch Doll

Cricket!  I had her as a child.  She also had a blue chair.

The mall

This Coke Bear sniffs the pretty flowers.

I loved this McDonalds ornament!

Ramon's Pink Pills, A Real Laxative

Old Sprite Bottle

Check out ingredients in this cough syrup.

A Macho Man Randy Savage cooler

Tiny Lincoln Logs!  These were so neat!

Olympic Cabbage Patch Kids

Dollywood Pepsi Bottle.  Dollywood switched to Coke sometime shortly after this.

I came across these adorable little tikes furniture pieces for a dollhouse.

I had both the red car and lunch table.

If anyone is looking for Coke bottles, Vette City has a ton!

I was only into Barbie for a few years as a child, but I love looking through them today.  I enjoy spotting ones I had as a child.

George W. Bush Talking Doll!  He was so neat!

This Magnetic-Action Super Market looked so neat!  I would have loved this as a kid...still would as an adult! Haha.

Beanie Babies are going to be worth something one day, you know?

I had this Dog Family Racing Track and a similar Pinguin one.  They are really neat!

Looking for a computer?  This one comes with all sorts of bells and whistles and is only $99.97!

More Barbie!

Nearby is Jerry's Restaurant. I had never been before and wanted to check it out.

Jerry's was great!  We had an excellent waitress too.  I'm adding it to our "must-do" list for traveling on I-65N.

It's right near the Corvette Museum.

Ah. Old-school quarter machines!

As we were driving, we came across The Hotel Sync in Bowling Green.  It looked interesting.  I later looked it up online, and it looks very nice.

Bowling Green at night

Bowling Green still has an Internet Cafe.

We went to The Great Escape.  This store location didn't have a lot that interested us.

Then, we went to Roses.

They had underwear already stained.

Interesting hats.

Ugly shoes.

Cheap, old-school toys.

A layaway!

Knock-off Games.

Ford Fiesta Models.

Dented Cans of Yoo-hoo.

Opened candy available for purchase.

Nothing says Christmas like Mixed Greens.

More opened candy for sale.

Empty shelving.

A Reindeer Toilet Set.

Opened boxes of lights.

A great music section.

Phone cords.  If you're still using a phone that has a cord, Roses has you covered!

When I want to buy a flat screen TV, Roses is always the place I go to.  Not.

If you still need a VHS tape to record your favorite show, Roses has plenty in stock.

On our way to the mall, we stumbled across this jewel.  Mighty Dollar in Bowling Green, KY.

The trash can outside of the store should give you an idea at the fun to come.

Check out this cool "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Yo-Yo.  Gosh, the Ninja Turtles sure look different these days.

They had an interesting book selection.

Mighty Dollar actually had a great teacher section.  If you are a teacher or homeschool teacher, you might want to check this place out.

Also, if you have a relative turning 95, Mighty Dollar has napkins for a party in stock!

After exploring every section of Mighty Dollar, we headed to the mall.  It was really nice!

Upon entering, we saw children riding these animals all over the mall!  They were available to rent.

They were so neat!  I think the sign said there was a 275 pound weight limit.

After the mall, we headed to Toys "R" Us!

Then, to Half Price Books Outlet.

Look at young Martha Stewart on the left.

Then, we hit up Ollie's Bargain Outlet right before they closed.  They had a good selection of children's toys as well as books.

Ollie's had an Obama First Family puzzle.

Then, we hit up one of my favorite stores, Meijer!  This was only my second visit to one.

They had a small version of Scooperman ice cream.  I was so excited to try this thinking it was like Superman ice cream.  The reason I like Superman ice cream is because it is kind of similar to Rainbow Vanilla Ice Cream.  I can't find Rainbow Vanilla Ice Cream anywhere these days though.  It was my favorite as child.  It was light blue, light pink, and vanilla and tasted like vanilla.  Sadly, Scooperman is fruit flavored.  I didn't notice this until I had already bought and tried it.

These Bumpy Cakes looked interesting.

We found Poop Dough in the toy section.

Meijer has a neat clothing selection.  I found a pink top I love.

They have large dressing rooms.

After leaving, we stopped by Sonic for drinks.  We went through the drive-thru.  It was our first time doing so at Sonic, and it went much faster than the stalls.

We stopped for gas on our way home.

Heading home

We had a great day exploring Bowling Green!
