Driving to Akureyi, Iceland

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

We are flew to Iceland today!  Before our flight, we went to Kings, a bowling and food establishment.  We chose Kings because of its proximity to our hotel.

Kings was alright.  The service and food were just so-so.

Arriving at Chicago O'Hare

When you board Icelandair, they hand you a bottle of water.  They also have very nice pillows and blankets waiting for you in your seat.  That may not sound too different than other airlines but there's just something about Icelandair.  You truly feel like you about to go on a special journey.

Our first destination in Iceland will be Akureyi.

See the yellow pole below?  You're not supposed to park on the side of the road.  See the moss here? You're not supposed to walk on or mess with moss.  Many tourists do this, and it damages the land. Moss takes decades to repair.

We saw sheep on the side of the road and found a pull-off to stop.

Stopping at a gas station along the way

Waterfall in Northern Iceland

The landscape in Iceland is unmatched.  Pictures just can not do it justice.

On the agenda for tonight is a whale watching tour!  We had to make a quick run to a store before we went though.  Hackaup is the closest Iceland has to a Walmart.
