Going Whale-Watching in Iceland

Thursday, June 30, 2016

We are driving to Husavik tonight for a whale-watching tour.  Husavik is a small town in Northern Iceland known for its whale-watching tours.

Heading out into the bay

They gave us suits to wear to help with the cold rain and wind.

A whale sighting!

We only saw Minke Whale on our tour.  I had hoped to see an Orca Whale but am glad we at least got to see a whale.  I was pretty content with our tour after we had found one whale and followed it for awhile, but then our guides decided to venture even further out into the bay to look for more whales. It was unsuccessful.  It took forever to get back to the dock, and it was raining and so cold by then.  It was miserable.  They did offer us hot chocolate and some type of bread.

It was around 7 or 8 o'clock when the tour was complete.  We found two convenience store restaurants (as we were starving) but they were already closed.  Places shut down very early in Iceland, so beware.

We made the drive back to Akureyi and, thankfully, found a market that was still open.
