Traveling to Romania Day 4

Thursday, June 1, 2017

Good morning from Sighisoara, Romania!  Today we set out to hike up to the city top and explore some of the locations there.  There was a lot of hiking involved today!

The covered walkway, built between the 14th and 17th centuries, allows children can walk to school in the winter.  The high school is located to the left once you reach the top of the stairs.   The Biserica din Deal church is also located here. If you want to avoid the steps, just take the path to the right of the steps/covered walkway.  It will take you to the same area.  Scroll below for picture instructions.

We stopped at a little cafe on the rightside of the walkway to purchase some water.  This water from Serbia was the best water I had during my time in Romania.  It's really good!

The church

After our hike to the top, we arrive at the church only to find this sign! 😓

Located right in front of the church is an old cemetery.  Since we were there, we decided to talk a walk through the cemetery; it's a beautiful area.

Instead of walking back down the stairs, we decided to explore and take another path.  To take this path, just keep walking to the left of the stairs.

Remember the path I mentioned you can take to avoid the stairs?  Here it is!  Just walk up the path to the right of the stairs.  The little cafe we purchased water from is also pictured below.

Souvenir booths outside the stair entrance

A beautiful cafe located past the souvenir booths

The town square area

The yellow house pictured below is supposedly where Vlad the Impaler (inspired Dracula) was born.  You can pay 2 lei and go up to the room where he was born.  It's quite gimmicky.  In the first room you visit, an employee is lying in a casket and screams to scare you.  The famous clock tower is located in the background.

Another stray dog.  As a dog-lover, it was so sad to see these dogs.

Some pictures taken on a different path back down to the hotel

Back at the hotel, we went to get our car out of the garage so we could explore some other places in nearby towns.  When we went into the garage, we saw a big truck blocking the exit.  We went back to the reception desk to let them know we needed to leave.  The employee made a call and then told us we would have to wait 2-3 hours before it would be moved.  The truck was just sitting there.  As a paying hotel guest and Hilton Honors member, this was totally unacceptable.  After contacting Hilton directly, they called and made them move the truck.  Sadly, this cost us some time, and we were unable to visit a few locations we had planned to visit.

Our rental car

Kaufland is a grocery store in town.

Star Wars Ketchup bags

McDonald's Ketchup in a bottle!  I found this so interesting.

Pepsi Twist still exists!  Who knew?

They had a knockoff version of our favorite overseas ice cream, Viennetta.  We had to purchase!

All of this below was purchased for between $4-6.  Again, we get a good exchange rate!  As for the ROM bars, they are not very good, in my opinion.

The hotel sent a bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine to apologize for the incident earlier, which was nice.

Good night from Sighisoara!
