Visiting Amalienborg Palace and Christiansborg Palace

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Good morning from Copenhagen!  Today we will be exploring some of the royal palaces in the city.  Before we begin our day, though, we grabbed complimentary breakfast from the hotel restaurant.  The First Hotel Copenhagen really goes all out on their breakfast.  It is very good!

Amalienborg Palace has a neat tour you can take.  The tour doesn't take you inside of the Royal Family's actual living quarters, but it does take you inside one building that houses exhibits.  I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it when visiting.

This globe showed places where the Queen has visited.

The museum had a neat special exhibit called The Queen's Attic.  In the exhibit, there were family pieces that have been saved for years.  One thing that I especially loved about this exhibit was that they left the dust on the exhibit pieces.

Before we finished in the museum, it was getting close to time for The Changing of The Royal Guard.  Our ticket allowed us admission for the entire day, so we left to go watch The Royal Guard.

After The Changing of The Royal Guard was finished, we headed back to the museum to finish exploring!

Then, we decided to catch an Uber for a ride to Hard Rock Cafe.

The restaurant must be located in a touristy area as this location was also home to a 7 Eleven, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Starbucks, etc.

Next, we decided to go to Christianborg Palace.  Christianborg Palace is the seat of Danish Parliament.  Several parts of the palace are also used by the royal family.

We had to wear plastic booties over shoes to explore some of the areas.

This is the window where the Queen was announced to the public upon taking the throne.

With our ticket, we were able to visit several different parts of the palace complex.  First up were the horse stables.

In this area they also keep the riding gear and carriages.  Some of the carriages have a rich history.

This carriage also had a toilet inside.

Next up was the palace kitchen.  This kitchen is no longer used and is now a museum.

Finally, we visited the ruins underneath Christianborg Palace. The ruins are from Bishop Absalon's Castle and the Blue Tower.

After we were finishing touring Copenhagen for the day, we headed to Field's Mall to explore and eat dinner.

Today was a great day exploring these beautiful palaces in Copenhagen.  Getting to see The Changing of The Royal Guard was a wonderful treat.  Goodnight from Copenhagen!
